Without a doubt, summer is the best time to be in Maine. However, it is also a time of risk as underserved youth face “summer slide;” the three month hiatus from school causing them to fall behind in their academic, social, and emotional growth. To combat summer slide, Tree Street Youth offers two programs – an elementary school program and a combined middle- and high school program – for six weeks over the summer with the goal of keeping kids engaged in and learning during the otherwise idle summer months.
If your child is already registered to participate in Tree Street Youth programming, you do not need to register them again for the summer. Instead, fill out our Summer Signup Form.
Each day, 1st-5th grade students participate in a variety of activities including literacy tutoring and language skills classes, outdoor recreation, and arts and crafts. The middle- and high school students can choose from a number of arts and cultural enrichment programs, such as college prep courses, studio art classes, and outdoor-learning opportunities. In addition to our onsite offerings, the Summer program includes weekly off-site excursions within the local area; many of these being new – and otherwise unattainable – experiences for our youth, such as hiking, museum visits, and fishing.
