Since July 2011, Tree Street Youth has operated a six-week Summer Youth Program designed to ensure that neighborhood youth have an ongoing opportunity to obtain the skills, tools, and resources required to achieve success. Each day, 1st -5th graders participate in several activities including the AceIt! Tutoring Program administered on-site by Sylvan Learning Center (Auburn), outdoor recreational activities, arts and crafts, and HodgePodge (a variety of science, math, art, or musical activities). The middle and high school program is primarily enrichment based offering classes in college preparation, studio art, dance, visual arts, and recreation.
These activities are supplemented by weekly field trips and excursions within the local area and around the state. Through the generous support of our community partners, youth are exposed to the pleasures of hiking, recreational fishing, swimming, art appreciation and a variety of other experiences that many of our youth would not otherwise have access to.
The Summer Youth Program is run by Tree Street staff, interns, and StreetLeaders. Staff interns develop and manage their own classroom curriculums and are assisted by StreetLeaders who provide student support. StreetLeaders work with a designated group of children throughout the summer accompanying them in each classroom rotation, on field trips, and providing mentorship throughout the critical summer months.
